The PPSh-41 fills a very different role from the assault rifles dominating the middle of the CoD MW4 weapon pool. The current database lists the PPSh-41 at 1,100 RPM with 29 base damage, making it one of the fastest-firing weapons available in CoD MW4. However, the latest beta balance pass reduced its maximum damage from 22 to 19 and raised its minimum damage from 11 to 12. The third mid-range damage band was also removed.
Why the PPSh-41 Plays Differently
The 1,100 RPM fire rate is the defining characteristic of the PPSh-41.
It can put a large number of rounds downrange extremely quickly, which makes missed shots less damaging than they would be with a slower weapon. At the same time, that fire rate can consume ammunition rapidly.
This creates a simple trade-off.
You have a weapon that is excellent at forcing close-range fights, but you need enough magazine capacity and recoil control to take advantage of its firing speed.
Building Around the PPSh-41
A practical PPSh-41 setup should focus on keeping the weapon controllable while preserving its aggressive handling.
Prioritize:

- Magazine capacity for dealing with multiple enemies.
- Sprint-to-fire performance for aggressive entries.
- Aim-down-sight speed when playing smaller 6v6 maps.
Avoid turning the weapon into an unnecessarily heavy SMG.
The PPSh-41 already has the firepower needed at close range. Losing too much mobility just to make the recoil slightly easier can undermine the reason to use it.
The Right Range for PPSh-41
The biggest mistake is trying to use the PPSh-41 like an assault rifle.
Once the engagement stretches into a long lane, the weapon’s high RPM becomes less useful because damage falls off and controlling sustained fire becomes harder.
Instead, use cover to create short engagements.
Doors, staircases, objective rooms and narrow routes are ideal situations. Hardpoint and Domination can be especially favorable because objectives naturally create the close-range fights the PPSh-41 wants.
How to Control Its Ammunition
The 1,100 RPM fire rate makes ammunition management more important than it looks.
Do not hold the trigger simply because the PPSh-41 can fire quickly. Short controlled bursts can be enough when an enemy is already centered in the sight.
Reload after securing an area rather than automatically reloading after every elimination.
That small habit can prevent the classic SMG problem of winning the first gunfight and entering the next fight with an empty magazine.
PPSh-41 Playstyle in CoD MW4
The current PPSh-41 is best viewed as a close-range pressure weapon.
Push behind cover, take fights inside tight spaces, and force opponents to react to your movement rather than challenging their preferred range.
Its recent damage adjustments mean it is less forgiving when used outside its intended distance, but the 1,100 RPM fire rate still gives it a distinct advantage when fights become chaotic.
